Beautiful day for it. Not sure life can get much better than salt cod beignets, aioli, stracciatella, courgettes and agrodolce, with a glass of crisp white splishy-splashy at Sargasso. Actual heaven.

Another lovely meal at the always excellent Café

Another lovely meal at the always excellent Café Deco. Starting with classic cured sea trout with cucumber, mustard and dill, this was perfectly executed. Although slightly disappointed that the blanquette de veau had been taken off the menu (surely the best beige dish of all time), the braised lamb with sorrel and orzo was a gorgeous replacement. And bread provided automatically too, as it should be 👌

Ah Supawan, so good to be back. There’s nothing

Ah Supawan, so good to be back. There’s nothing quite like dining in a flower shop with the most divine Thai food at the King’s Cross end of Caledonian Road. Such a beautiful meal and great value! First reviewed in 2021, it’s always good to carry out a check-up and remind yourself that somewhere you loved first time is still wonderful. Supawan is truly one of the best Thai restaurants in London. (The fact it was packed to the rafters on this visit perhaps indicates the message is getting through - the peace and quiet of the flower shop was very welcome and is a Palate tip if you’re not a fan of noisy restaurants.)

Moo Hong (a must when you visit: Phuket slow-cooked pork belly with Chinese five spice, black pepper and soy sauce), Paneang chicken curry and Gang Kiew Wan (Thai green curry);
Peek Kai Yud Sai (fried chicken wings stuffed with minced chicken, prawns, mushrooms and glass noodles);
Sweet corn and Thai herb fritters with tamarind and chilli sauce;
More lovely curries with morning glory.

The “Eyes Open” (not “Eyes Wide Shut”) negroni with kaffir lime-infused gin was a revelation too.

Medlar loveliness. Warm salad of asparagus, Jersey royals and crisp pheasant egg; rump of lamb and sautéed sweetbreads, slow cooked onion, potato galette; buttermilk panna cotta with gariguette strawberries and pistachio cakes; giant gougères. A consistently excellent neighbourhood restaurant.

Where better to spend World Cocktail Day than at T

Where better to spend World Cocktail Day than at The Egerton? Excellent personal service from Sahbi as always. A perfectly made Negroni, direct Martini tableside, Welsh rarebit. A true gem of a place.
